Formation
- Christian and Lutheran Basics
Our Formation class
seeks to teach and refresh people to the teachings of the Bible through
using the text of Martin Luther's Small Catechism (Catechism means
"handbook").
The Small Catechism is divided into 6 sections which each discuss God's
Law and His Gospel, as we find them in Scripture and experience them in
our own lives.
Those 6 sections are:
- The Ten Commandments
- The Apostles' Creed
- The Lord's Prayer
- Baptism
- Communion
- Confession and the Forgiveness of Sin
Formation is a
one-on-one process with Pastor Jay and is open to anyone either in the
congregation or from outside of the congregation. If you have
already studied the catechism, this
class can provide a refreshing trip down memory lane. If you are
curious about what Lutherans believe, this class will explain the
Lutheran point of view.
This
class also serves as the necessary instruction before the rite of
Confirmation (an opportunity that Lutherans take to publically confess
that they agree with the teachings of the Bible and of the church) and
for those considering transfering from one faith tradition to the
Lutheran church.
