History
University Lutheran Church and Student Center has
had a history of serving the residents and students of Tallahassee for
several years. The first years of University Lutheran were solely
devoted to reaching out to Lutheran students on the campuses of the
Tallahassee higher education institutions. Since 1999, University
Lutheran has reached out to both students and to residents of the
Tallahassee area.
In 1964, after fifteen years of assigning nearby
pastors to serve as
campus chaplains, the District undertook a full-time campus
ministry. It called Rev. David Kruse as Campus Pastor, purchased
propert at West Jefferson Street, and remodeled the two bedroom house
into Luther House.

Luther House included a chapel and recreation
center for Lutherans who attended FSU, Florida A&M, and Tallahassee
Community College. In 1965 the District purchased an adjoining
lot to construct a multi-purpose facility.
That facility is where University Lutheran continues to do ministry
even today.
